Real Betis Launches Diversity Wins Podcast: A Voice for Inclusion Reaches the Airwaves

October 31, 2024

Fundación Real Betis Balompié introduced a new chapter to the Diversity Wins project by launching a dedicated podcast series—a bold, narrative-driven approach to social inclusion that extended the project’s reach far beyond workshops and classrooms.

A New Platform for Conversation

Recognizing the potential of storytelling, the foundation embraced podcasting as a way to deepen engagement and humanize the journey toward equality. The format provided space for authentic dialogue and meaningful exploration of inclusion through the voices of people living the experience firsthand.

The inaugural podcast episodes featured compassionate and inspiring voices from within the Betis community:

  • Cristina María Manzano Soto, coach of both the Betis Genuine (for intellectually disabled players) and blind football teams, shared insights on fostering confidence and belonging.
  • María Jiménez Gutiérrez, a key midfielder for Betis Féminas, spoke passionately about the evolution of women’s football in Spain and the importance of role models for young girls.
  • Marta González Cuesta, even as a coach of the amputee football team, reflected on how sport empowers athletes to redefine ability and break down societal stereotypes.

Breaking Down Stereotypes, One Story at a Time

By amplifying these voices, the podcast highlighted real-life journeys of resilience, representation, and community. These narratives brought listeners face-to-face with diverse perspectives, underscoring the idea that football—beyond its competitive edge—can serve as a powerful platform for social change.

Extending the Project’s Reach

Unlike in-person sessions, the podcast transcended physical boundaries, reaching audiences across Seville, Spain, and Europe. This digital medium made the message of Diversity Wins accessible, shareable, and sustainable—potentially inspiring listeners well beyond the project’s active period.

“Football has always been about passion and identity, but it is also about belonging,” said a spokesperson from Fundación Real Betis. “With the Diversity Wins podcast, we wanted to show that everyone has a story worth telling—and that these stories can inspire others to see diversity as a strength.”

A Lasting Legacy

Through this initiative, Fundación Real Betis Balompié demonstrated innovation and leadership in using sport for social impact. The podcast series stands as a timeless resource—encouraging future projects to explore creative formats for inclusion storytelling and guaranteeing that the spirit of acceptance continues to resonate across football and society.
