Diversity Wins at Ibrox Primary School: Football Meets Inclusion
August 17, 2023
In a vibrant display of community engagement, the Rangers Charity Foundation—as part of the Diversity Wins project—visited Ibrox Primary School where Primary 6 and 7 pupils had the opportunity to explore critical topics in a unique, interactive learning environment.
On the Ground at Ibrox Primary
During the session, children participated in workshops tackling themes like discrimination, prejudice, stereotyping, employability, and LGBT+ inclusion—all carefully aligned with Scotland’s national curriculum. The event was supported by Rangers FC Women’s and Girls Manager Amy McDonald, who engaged directly with pupils, sharing her personal journey in football and opening up about challenges she faced as a female in the game. youtube.com+9rangerscharity.org.uk+9facebook.com+9
Numbers Speak Louder Than Words
The Diversity Wins initiative has made a tangible impact:
- Delivered to more than 800 pupils across 26 schools in Glasgow during 2022.
- An impressive 89% of students reported obtaining a “good” to “excellent” understanding of discrimination, its various forms, and its consequences after participating. rangerscharity.org.uk+2rangerscharity.org.uk+2
Empowering Voices and Breaking Barriers
“I enjoyed meeting the kids at Ibrox Primary today… it’s important to teach people about discrimination awareness from an early age,” shared Amy McDonald, reflecting on her visit. kickers.co.uk+13rangerscharity.org.uk+13tfn.scot+13
Connal Cochrane, Chief Executive of the Rangers Charity Foundation, added:
“I am proud that the Foundation delivers this vital work in so many schools… We are all different and must be able to bring our whole selves to school or work without fear of prejudice. It is great to be able to have these conversations so that school pupils can ask questions and learn in a safe environment.” rangerscharity.org.uk
Driving Change Through Conversation
The Diversity Wins programme aims not just to educate but to ignite real change. By empowering young people to talk about difficult topics—facilitated by trusted football figures—the Foundation reinforces the idea that conversation can be a first step toward inclusivity and empathy on and off the field.
